JIS hosts Careers Carousel

JERUDONG International School (JIS) held its annual JIS Senior School Careers Carousel recently.

Every year, JIS invites recognised experts within their specialist fields to meet and give presentations to over 300 JIS Upper Years students in Year 11 to Year 12.

These students are completing their IGCSEs or have just commenced their A Level or IB Diploma studies.

The students were invited to select two talks to attend from the wide range on offer – a selection of over 40 talks and 60 speakers presenting and discussing their careers.

A special aspect was the presence of several Bruneian JIS alumni who returned to the school as a speaker.

Each talk included a question and answer session, where students took advantage of the opportunity to question the speakers. This level of access provided students with the opportunity to acquire information about their possible chosen career.

Many students used the opportunity to network with the professionals to organise a possible work placement.

Speakers from this year included Natalie Gowers Barnes from the British High Commission in Brunei Darussalam who spoke on International Diplomacy, Medical Superintendent from Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital Dr Sofian bin Dato Paduka Dr Haji Johar who spoke on medicine, and Ampuan Dr Siti Nur Hanisah binti Ampuan Dr Haji Ibrahim from the Ministry of Health who spoke on dentistry.

Meanwhile, JIS alumni speakers included Shinny Chai from The Collective who spoke about the creative arts industry, Aimi Ramlee from Tyne Solutions who spoke about business entrepreneurship, Osveanne Osman from Creative Space who discussed creative arts and Azela Safri who spoke about working in engineering at Shell.

The Careers Carousel also included many careers represented for the first time such as media, petro physicist and an aviation helicopter pilot.
