JIS students shine in French online international contest

JERUDONG International School (JIS) French Language students in Year 7 to Year 13 took part in a worldwide competition organised by Education Perfect, an online software tool to enhance knowledge of vocabulary, over the course of one week.

Out of 134 schools entered, JIS came 11th for French. Among schools with similar student population, JIS was placed second out of 34 and first in Southeast Asia.

Students embraced the opportunity of learning new words as well as having fun competing against their peers in other countries around the world. Year 11 student Vania Goh achieved 57th place worldwide and 13th in South-east Asian FOBISIA schools.

Prizes were awarded to the students.

At JIS, French is taught from Reception level all the way up to International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma level.

Head of European Languages at JIS Philippe Poulain said, “JIS students have taken part in this competition annually for a few years now but this year I was particularly impressed on how engaged they were with it for the whole week, including the weekend.

“This enabled our school to lead the scoreboard and the students to acquire the vocabulary necessary for their current studies. Students must be commended for their efforts and eagerness to achieve excellence in the subject.”
