Royalty among JIS students briefed on nationhood

THE Information Department at the Prime Minister’s Office, through its Nationhood Unit, Nationhood and Community Division, delivered a briefing on ‘Our King, appreciating our national flag and anthem’ at the Jerudong International School (JIS) yesterday.

A total of 50 students from Year 7 were in attendance.

Among those present was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel, the youngest son of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Others were the Head of Middle Years Richard Bourbon and the JIS teaching staff.

The briefing was delivered by the Head of the Nationhood Unit, Hajah Hamsah binti Datu Kerna Haji Jaya.

Hajah Hamsah explained to the students, the procedures of hoisting the national flag and a detailed history behind the Brunei national anthem Allah Peliharakan Sultan.

The students had the opportunity to watch several video clips entitled Kibarkanlah Dengan Megah Bendera Negara, Semarak Pengibaran Bendera Negara, Tatacara Menaikkan Bendera Negara and Information Department mobile app, InfoDeptBN.

They then participated in a nationhood quiz and prizes were presented to the winners.

The programme was one of the many continuous efforts by the Information Department to instil and enhance loyalty to the ruler, religion, race and country, as well as to strengthen the spirit of solidarity, patriotism and nationhood among the students.

The Information Department has thus far organised nationhood briefings in 33 government and private secondary schools in the Brunei-Muara District.
