JIS brings Peter Pan to life with enthralling musical

THE adventurous tale of the boy who never grew up came to life in a musical from Disney’s Peter Pan Jr performed by Junior School students from Jerudong International School (JIS) yesterday.

Some 151 children from Year 3 to Year 6 performed on stage dressed in costumes of characters from the popular children’s tale.

Leading the cast of talents were Jordan Lo as Peter Pan, Breanna Lee as Wendy, Luqa Briffa as Captain Hook, Sofia Sim as Tiger lily, Sienna Holmes as Tinkerbell alongside other characters who contributed to the success of the performance.

A classic fairy tale by JM Barrie which enthralled audiences around the world since it premiered on a London stage 100 years ago, Peter Pan tells the story of the Darling children.

Wendy, Michael and John flew to Neverland with Peter Pan where they embark on an adventure involving beautiful mermaids, Peter’s band of Lost Kids in their Hideout, Indians, the villainous Captain Hook with his band of pirates, the Tinkerbell the naughty fairy and of course, the clock-ticking crocodile.

Created to engage the imagination of young and old, the production team has created a mobile set that captured the attention of the audience into each scene. The play also included several well-loved Disney songs such as Yo Ho Yo Ho A Pirate’s Life for Me, Never Smile At A Crocodile and Following the Leader.

Principal of JIS, Barnaby Sandow lauded the students by saying, “It is a privilege to witness the journey of each child through JIS and share in their success when the curtain comes down.”

Meanwhile, Head of Junior School, Paul Bannister revealed that it was the first full-scale musical performed by Junior School students.

He expressed his gratitude to parents and guardians who spent time after school and at weekends to bring Peter Pan to life describing it as “another example of the levels of commitment that typify JIS”.

Director Anna Hogan attributes the success of the Peter Pan production not only to the wonderful cast on stage but also to the very large supporting backstage teams.

“To our young people, as the responsibilities of your lives continues to grow with age, make sure you carry the joy of childhood and imagination with you,” she noted.
