Liverpool legend Barnes in Brunei

MORE than 100 kids aged five to 12 were star-struck when they came face-to-face with Liverpool Football Club’s (LFC) legend, John Barnes, at the Jerudong International School (JIS).

The students from JIS and International School Brunei as well as Standard Chartered Bank clients’ children were taking part in a Football Clinic with LFC Legend John Barnes hosted by Standard Chartered Bank and JIS.

The event was part of Standard Charted Bank Brunei’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

Anirvan Dastidar, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Brunei said, “Standard Chartered has reached a key milestone of being in Brunei for 60 years. As a global sponsor of the Liverpool FC, we are delighted to be able to bring a differentiated experience for our clients and the youths in Brunei through our global partnership.

“We remain committed as the only international bank in Brunei to continue driving commerce and prosperity in Brunei through our unique diversity.”

Standard Chartered Bank Brunei is celebrating its 60th anniversary in Brunei this year by offering a full range of financial products and services for corporate and retails clients.

John Barnes said, “This is a fantastic event. Standard Chartered believes in giving back to the community and they understand the importance of family as well as the community.

“This is my second time in Brunei and I know that the people in Brunei and the region are very passionate about football. It is not surprising to see the massive love and interest in football among the children here.”

Standard Chartered Bank originally signed up as LFC’s main sponsor in July 2010 and over the years, Standard Charted and LFC used their partnership to support a number of the bank’s award winning sustainability and community investment programmes.
