JIS students receive Star of the Month award

THE Asian Languages Faculty at Jerudong International School (JIS), recently presented 16 outstanding senior school students with the inaugural Asian Languages Star of the Month award, certificate and badge.

The Asian Languages Faculty at JIS offers Malay Language, Urdu, Foreign Language Chinese and Foreign Language Malay programmes across the Junior School to the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme in sixth form.

Melhan Adam, Head of Asian Languages at JIS, said faculty members selected and shortlisted students from their classes who have stood out for ‘Excellence in Languages’.

“The recipients are not necessarily the most able linguists, but students who have displayed tremendous levels of effort, enthusiasm, progress and work ethics for their language learning.

“This includes promoting and using the language outside the classroom or by producing an outstanding piece of work, or even showing significant improvements in their language proficiency and interest in the culture and language.”

Awards for the senior school are given once every two months and termly for the junior school.

The Asian Languages Star of the Month badge are worn by recipients with their school uniform designed by Year 9 JIS student, Rafeeqa Teo.
