The event marked the end of religious school education for these students and served as a platform to strengthen the relationship between teachers, officers and parents.

Opening the event was the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Cikgu Norimy bin Haji Ahad, a religious teacher from JIS Religious School followed by an opening speech by Cikgu Hajah Noraidah binti Haji Tengah, Principal of JIS Religious School in her capacity as the chairperson of the event.

In her speech, Cikgu Hajah Noraidah highlighted that the JIS Religious School was established on January 10, 2005 with four teachers as a result of negotiations between the JIS Board of Directors and the Ministry of Education. Then, classes were divided into four – from Pre-Primary until Primary 3 with 11 students.

The religious school now has 221 students for the 2017-2018 session and 13 teachers.

The principal also noted that a number of activities were conducted by the school during the 2016-2017 session such as a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony for Primary 6 students, a new Hijrah Year celebration, a Maulidur Rasul celebration, Hari Raya and Teacher’s Day celebration as well as extra classes and Parent-Teacher meetings and Amali programmes among others.

One student from JIS Religious School was chosen to participate in the 71 times Khatam Al-Quran held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s birthday celebrations.

“Religious education is very important to Muslim students in Brunei Darussalam to protect themselves from unhealthy and unbecoming circumstances,” said the principal. “I can feel that the two parties (JIS and JIS Religious School) have a strong bond in ensuring the success of students and their achievements in both religious and academic studies which gives the school outstanding results.”

The event also saw a brief speech by the Principal of JIS Barnaby Sandow, followed by a speech by the Minister of Religious Affairs.

The event also saw a slide presentation on the JIS Religious School before the presentation of certificates to the students and appreciation gifts to the Primary 6 teachers by the guest of honour.

Students of the JIS Religious School carried out a Tausyeh performance. The ceremony culminated with a souvenir presentation to the guest of honour.
