100 teams turn up for Football Funday

OVER 100 football teams from various schools in the sultanate took part in the Football Funday event at Jerudong International School’s (JIS) Football Fields in Jerudong, yesterday.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim participated in the Under-10 category for International School Berakas (ISB). Son of Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Haseeb, also took part in the event and competed for ISB in the Under-11 category.

Panaga B emerged champions in the Under-8 age category at the Football Funday, hosted by JIS and sponsored by KIA Motors.

In the same category, Panaga A and ISB Rockets finished second and third, respectively.

Panaga Thunder bagged the first place in the Under-9 category while JIS Lightning and Panaga Warriors clinched second and third spots, respectively.

In the Under-10 category, ISB Panthers won the champions title, while ISB Jaguar finished second, followed by Panaga Dragons.

Meanwhile, the Brunei Sports School Soccer Academy (BSSSA) emerged champions in the Under-11 category. ISB Thunder finished second, while ISB Lightning had to settle for third. Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien College (SOAS) bagged the Under-13 category title while JIS Legends finished second, followed by JIS Dream Team.

Director of Sports, Chris McGeorge said: “JIS is delighted to join the nationwide push for grassroots level sport by delivering an exciting fun day of football, involving close to 1,000 children and over 100 teams participating.”

“Football Funday is not just about football though. During the event, parents and students are also running a number of stalls to raise money for the official school charities, including the Special Needs Unit in Brunei,” he added.

The event was enlivened with an array of fun activities for younger children like archery tag and bubble football. Food vendors including Fratinis, Mr Softy, London Kebab House and Seri Kandi made their presence at the event.
