The magnificent JIS Arts Centre opened in October 2011, causing quite a stir due to the sheer scale and quality of the development. It is the largest of its kind in Brunei and consists of an impressive theatre, internationally-engineered acoustics and a sophisticated auditorium with a capacity of 725 people. It also boasts an exhibition gallery, a large dance studio, spacious music rehearsal facilities, as well as other smaller soundproofed music, drama and dance areas.
There are black box and flexible staging facilities in addition to fully comprehensive lighting and audio-visual systems. The backstage dressing rooms are luxuriously fitted to provide the necessary amenities for performers.
The Arts Centre, as well as being available for outside commercial hire, provides our students with rehearsal and performance opportunities in a professional environment. The surrounding landscaping incorporates Zen aesthetics to promote tranquillity, harmony and hopefully inspiration for our young musicians, artists and performers.
Performances at The Arts Centre have included our superb production of 'Grease' and the annual Showcase Concert featuring a full array of student musical talent and dance. A colourful and culturally diverse International Week Show; the Junior students' hilarious production of Ali Baba, with striking set design and imaginative staging. This professional standard facility has also hosted overseas acts such as the US Navy 7th Fleet Band, Orient Express, the 'Toyota Classics'.
Music and the Arts are a highly valued part of life at the school and The Arts Centre is at the heart of public performance providing students with an authentic sense of the professional stage.
