Welcome to the Senior School - Upper Years: Years 12 & 13 (Ages 16-18)

The Senior School is for students in school years 7-13. The Upper Years are the final four years of School. In Years 10 and 11 students study for their GCSE’s. In Years 12 & 13 students study for the IB or A Level programmes, before leaving the School to go to University.

In Years 12 & 13, Jerudong International School (JIS) continues to offer an outstanding international education. By challenging our young men and women, our aim is to develop the talents each student already has. Through the curriculum they learn about the world and from our extensive co-curricular programme of the arts, sport, drama, music and service to others, they should learn about themselves. In the diverse pre-university years, students will make lifelong friends and cherish different traditions.

There are approximately 350 students in Years 12 &13 representing more than 30 different nationalities. A sizeable number of these students are boarders. The international nature of our Upper Years helps students to broaden their horizons and to gain a real understanding of the ‘global village’ that we live in. Students take their position as the most senior students in the school very seriously, and are afforded opportunities to take initiative and leadership roles within a structured framework.

JIS offers the Advanced Level General Certificate of Education (A-levels) as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB). Both courses are studied over a two year period and are held in high regard by leading universities around the world. Each curriculum has particular features that will suit different students and specialist staff guide students in the choice of the most suitable programme for each of them.

The Higher Education and Careers team is dedicated to assisting students through the process of applying to university and managing their own career development. Many of our young people go on to strongly impress admissions tutors in prestigious universities around the world. Past students have won such places and are currently studying at Cambridge, LSE, Imperial College, Berkeley University (USA), Australian National University, National University of Singapore and Melbourne. Although JIS is a relatively young school, it is already developing an impressive alumni, including students who have found careers in law, politics, medicine and the media.

Life in the Years 12 & 13 undoubtedly demands considerable commitment from students, but our highly qualified and experienced teachers stand ready to support your son or daughter to achieve their best in the classroom and beyond. We look forward to working with them to ensure that their education is a truly enriching and productive experience.
