Welcome to the Middle Years (Years 7-9)

The Senior School is for students in school years 7-13. Years 7-9 are referred to as the Middle Years.

The Middle Years involve students in a challenging, vibrant and nurturing environment that enables each individual to flourish. We believe in the traditional values of an independent school education but also embrace some of the new theories of learning emerging from research.

The Middle Years is the first phase of the Senior School. Our teachers are Middle Years specialists and teach through a range of engaging learning opportunities to provide work that challenges each child.

We believe that schools should promote knowledge wherever it may occur since this is the principle of a holistic, liberal education and that good schools ensure that the whole child is educated. Therefore, our pupils are encouraged to achieve their best in the areas of: academic, creative, social, physical, emotional, moral and spiritual development.

We expect students to work hard in their studies and to participate fully in co-curricular activities such as school trips, the Activity Week, the Middle Years Production, House events, Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs), Peace Day, International Day and Earth Day. We also expect students to contribute to assemblies and engage in activities during tutor group time or PSHE (personal, social, health and economic education).

We are also very aware that parents play an extremely important role in guiding the educational progress of their children. When schools and parents work in partnership, children are more likely to flourish. We have core values for our students and benefit from parental support in reinforcing these. We believe that students should work hard in all subjects, commit fully to the co-curricular aspect of school life, be respectful, tolerant and understanding of others.

Although the Middle Years are a period of great change, in the physical and mental lives of students, it is also a period of tremendous opportunity. We hope that school will be fun and that students will participate as fully as possible in everything on offer. A student who is happy and active is very likely to be a successful student. We look forward to working with you to provide an education of the highest quality for your child.
